If you want delicious food, gorgeous sceneries and plenty of sporty activities

You will love
The sun and the spectacular cuisine, but avoid the cool and rainy seasons (June to August and January to March). Mauritius specialises in seafood and skilled chefs who can turn their hand to anything. The daredevils among us might want to try our hand at zip-lining, abseiling, quad-biking and all the water sports you'd expect.

Facebrag about
The view from the top of Le Morne Brabant Mountain which you can walk up with a guide. Just don't be fooled by the locals' insistence it's a gentle uphill stroll, which roughly translates as "fairly terrifying climb".

Don't leave without
Sipping some cocktails. Known for its sugar industry and rum, Mauritius has some spectacular ones such as the coconutty Coco-Loco or blue Mermaid Song.

Pack it
  • sturdy shorts and trainers:if you want to enjoy the activities on offer, you will need to leave your bikini behind for the day
  • warm clothes: when the sun goes in it can get a bit nippy, so pack some tights and a cardi, just in case
  • stretchy trousers: did we mention the delicious food? you will need something loose-fitting
